What to Expect When Mary’s Expecting

maryelizabethAn uncreated God
Of blood and skin and bone.
A Lord within a womb
Who sits on heaven’s throne.
The Father’s only Son
Who’ll nurse at Mary’s breast.
The ever-watchful King
Asleep on Joseph’s chest.
Creator of the stars,
With diapers on his bum.
The right hand of the Lord
Who’ll suck his tiny thumb.

    Chad,

Thank you. I enjoyed reading the Infant Priest and appreciate receiving excerpts appropriate to the time of the Church Year in my inbox. I homeschool my children and even incorporate some of your poetry in my children’s memory work.

In response to your post today, I would like to share with you a meditation that I wrote on the birth of Christ. It is at the Sister, Daughter, Mother, Wife blog. Here is the link: http://www.sisterdaughtermotherwife.com/2014/12/a-meditation-on-birth-of-christ.html#more

  2. Hi Rachel,
Thank you for the kind words. I just read your meditation on the birth of Christ. It’s a beautiful tapestry of verses and images from the Scriptures. Today I finished teaching a Bible class in which we explored the OT roots of the Christmas story. You’ve done much the same in this piece, except with more of a focus upon the connections between the incarnation and atonement. Wonderfully done!
